The mountain of criticisms I have towards Larian at the moment could dwarf Everest.

That said, I actually don't mind the tadpole bit *yet*. It is, to me at least, basically the single thing that is seemingly done as an homage to the original Baldur's Gate games. CHARNAME was special because of something inside them (their 'bloodline') that started to manifest into powers (slayer), but if those powers were abused too much, could potentially take over the player. It was up to the player whether they wanted to embrace those powers, or try to get rid of them. However, CHARNAME also *wasn't* special because there were numerous other Bhaalspawn, just like there are other numerous mutated tadpole NPCs.

Yes, I would prefer if every single NPC didn't have the same affliction, make it slightly more special, but at least it seems somewhat in line with the BG storyline. It just sucks that Larian has stopped there.
