So, as we all know, unlike DOS, in D&D spells and abilities are not on CD. It means that after exhausting your resources it is time for the party to rest. This is why the most basic structure for an adventure in D&D is the dungeon. Small pockets of exploration and combat tied together through corridors. Usually rooms in the dungeon will have some challenge for the party, and after exploring a certain amount of rooms it will become harder and harder because of the limited amount of resources the party have. It forces the players to be smart and conserve resources. This is why we hear a lot the idea that an adventuring day should include 6-8 combat encounters. Because, even though the first, second, or even the third encounter might be quite easy, after a while things get harder as the party resources become limited.
To me it feels like BG3 is still designed around powers that are on CD rather than once per rest. Each combat encounter requires a lot from the party, and they are all very epic, with fire and acid grenades, elemental arrows, spells, sometimes more than 10 enemies at once, or enemies with many attacks each and a lot of hp, etc'.
So far I played around 23 hours and I think that on average I am resting after two combat encounters. At first I was afraid to rest because I was sure that my character will turn to an illithid, but after many many long rests the suspense died and I realised I can just take a long rest whenever I want.
What do you guys think?
