I took the Warlock Initiate Feat for Gale at level 4 so I could get hex damage on top of my other spells. This works well, but I've noticed hex damage isn't applying when I have the sapphire spark amulet equipped and use magic missile. Instead of getting the 3 kinds of damage rolls which should be (1d4+1 force) + (1d4 psychic) + (1d6 necrotic) per missile, I'm losing the hex necrotic damage, it's being replaced or not calculated at all.

Secondary bug: Magic missile can actually miss, seen 2/3 miss or 1/3, according to the spell it shouldn't miss as there is no attack/save roll for any of the missiles.

Whats the wording on the hex? Does it say "an attack"? An attack is something with an attack roll and MM typically sheds a lot of extra damage that might be contingent on that.


What is the problem you are solving? Does your proposed change solve the problem? Is your change feasible? What else will be affected by your change? Will your change impact revenue? Does your change align with the goals and strategies of the organizations (Larian, WotC)?

Pretty sure hex should not apply to magic missiles anyway. Was it applying when you didn't have the helmet on? Didn't for me.

You might be right, because of the attack roll. I'm not sure if this is intentional design or a bug then

I have seen Magic Missile miss due to pathing issues - if the path goes through a solid object, the missile will not hit.

The Hex issue may be deliberate - the rules are damage per attack and one spell equals one attack no matter how many dice you roll. The mechanics of splitting between targets isn't fully clarified, though.

Per 5th edition rules.

Whenever a attack roll is required.

So, scorching ray for example. One spell. attack roll per ray. each RAY gets a application of hex.

And yes, pathing issues will block Line of travel for MM. It's because Larian psychics has it curve. Should it curve per 5th edition rules? I dunno.

Do I like how Larian has it? actually, yes.
