Hello, everyone.
I'm new to these forums and this is the first of, I hope, many posts with feedback and suggestions to help make BG3 the best it can be.
I'm a bit of an audio aficionado, so it's no surprise that my first piece of feedback revolves around the game's sound.
While the use of reverb in specific environments (e.g. caves) is a welcome touch of aural realism, the game currently applies it inconsistently in a way I found jarring.
- Upon entering the tiefling village just outside the druid grove in the first area, everyone I spoke to had a significant amount of reverb applied to their voice. While some reverb while under the rock dome is to be expected, it seemed a tad heavy-handed for a mostly open environment.
- At the same time, other sound effects (e.g. footsteps) did not appear to be affected by reverb at all.
- Inside the druid grove, where Kagha is, reverb is noticeably lighter even through it's an enclosed space where sound would echo a lot more. Perhaps reverb intensity was mistakenly swapped between the two areas?
- At the same time, the cut scene in which Kagha speaks doesn't seem to have reverb at all—but there is after the kid is killed, when the other druid laments her death. Additionally, other SFX (e.g. footsteps or weapons being drawn) still do not appear to be affected; and neither the voices of the main character or their companions.
Good sound design can help immersion greatly in this kind of games, so I hope Larian will appreciate this feedback (and potentially more as I go through the game.)
