It seems that characters not proficient in sneaking still can play the not -in-line-of-site game and sneak very well. I feel like there should be more checks to sneaking then just sight. There should be hearing checks as well, so my heavy armor wearer will have to role even if he is out of line of site.

Some people already suggested adding a circle around enemies that you just can't sneak within without making a check which I think is in general a good idea.

Perception, the skill used in D&D to check your Stealth against does not only rely on Sight, but Sound and Smell as well. It would seem to be more aligned with the actual mechanic of D&D if they had a circle for sound and a larger cone for sight.

I recall seeing a visual effect around a plate-wearer when sneaking. Whether it meant anything, I can’t say (it certainly should though). So long as the checks give an advantage in the red field of view it should be fine as is

Larian wants Facing to be a thing because it was such a huge mechanic in DoS 2. So they are hamfisting it into the rules of 5e, even though it isn't supposed to be (outside of a sort of variant rule in the DMG which no one uses). WotC has explicitly stated that enemies are aware of things around them once combat starts, absent some other effect (Blindness, Darkness, etc).

Which is to say, enemies shouldn't have sight *cones* in combat, they should have sight *circles*. So defo agreed there.

More over, Stealth should require an Action, unless a class feature otherwise changes that. But again, Larian despises restricting gameplay abilities to specific classes and wants more Swiss Army Knife characters that can do everything, so not holding out hope for this change.
