There are more ways to avoid damage besides MISS , MISS , MISS.

"The goblin's blade STRIKES your armor but you manage to turn just in time for it to glance off of your armor. It swings its next hit and you use the momentum to crack the edge of your shield into its wrist, it almost loses the blade as the hand goes momentarily numb but recovers and is getting ready for his next strike" might be too much text spam on the screen

What is the problem you are solving? Does your proposed change solve the problem? Is your change feasible? What else will be affected by your change? Will your change impact revenue? Does your change align with the goals and strategies of the organizations (Larian, WotC)?

I actually think there could be something here, similar to how mirror image works.

Your base armor is 10, it changes based on what armor you wear, on top of that is your mobility (Dex), add to that armor added by a shield, so we get a gradation of armor classes.

So for instance let's say I have an armor class of 17, base 13 (chain shirt), + 2 (shield) + 1 (Dex), + 1 (shield of faith); so we could say, on a role of 10 or 11 the shield of faith deflects the attack on a roll of 12 I've dodged it, a roll of 13 or 14 , my shield blocked it (with a possible animation to go with it) and above that my armor absorbs the damage until it actually registers as a hit.

That sounds like a lot of work, but adding in a shield block animation randomly would still be something.

I'm not entirely sure if this is what the OP was going for but I think it's interesting.

DOS2 had shield blocking, maybe Larian might add blocking into the game later. Parrying could be added in too.

Mechanicaly it's all the same but it's weird to have a shield and never use it.

Necromancy is just recycling...

I'm all for adding different animations. A heavily armored character could probably take a hit and suffer no damage. A lightly armored character with high Dexterity might be more likely to dodge. A character with a shield is most likely to block the attack.

However, "Miss" just means the attack wasn't effective. It's not necessarily a miss as in it didn't land.
