Larian Studios Forums Baldur's Gate III Baldur's Gate III - General I don't understand the timeline

So, the game tells us we were abducted in Baldur's Gate. The problem is that in the intro, the Illithid ship teleports to Baldur's Gate only after we had a tadpole forced into our skull and, judging by the scene, it seems like that was the first time the illithid came to the city.
Am I missing something? Was the city in the intro not Baldur's Gate?

That was indeed a different city, although close to Baldurs Gate if I remember right (someone analyzed the trailer when it came out). Not that physical distance matters much to a plane hopping ship.

I wonder how the ship was even able to abduct people from Baldurs Gate as this city is far from defenseless.

The city in the intro is Yartar, it's quite a long way North from Baldur's Gate.

Wait until you get to choose Origin characters and choose to play Lae'zel.. You'll then be Lae'zel watching Lae'zel. :p Honestly the opening cinematic was made really early before they had nailed down all the logistics so there's bound to some little inconsistencies here and there. It's better now that they work on nailing down the story and gameplay and then if the cinematic needs redone later they can do that.. or not. Who knows.
