I noticed that the Spiffing Brit did a review of BG3 EA today and it was both really funny and pretty much spot on. Combat is broken, stealth is broken, the AI is broken and until it's sorted the game will be broken. Coming up with creative ways to abuse the combat system is not being tactical, it's abusing broken mechanics. And he really didn't even dig much deeper into the broken levels of surfaces; just the bonus action stealth combined with a ranged attack alone basically makes any encounter shooting fish in a barrel. I'm really hopeful that as the game is created that things will be changed for the better, but I also have a feeling in the pit of my stomach that the problems are so much a part of the base of the game that they can't be fundamentally fixed.

Regardless it is a funny review; long live Cheddar.

Spiffing Brit breaks games for a living by modding them and seeing what happens when you throw their systems out of whack for fun. Doing that on an EA game and claiming it’s broken is nonsensical.

Strat-Edgy did a video that I think considers the right factors. Combat is about pulling off plans and, in this game, it’s a tool to demonstrate your role. You know... a role playing game. It’s vastly more difficult to accomplish that than to balance a combat system. Which is clearly down the road.

Even if it weren’t in EA, this isn’t Civ 6, it’s not the kind of game that’s meant to be perfectly balanced. The whole approach he takes makes no sense applied to this game.

Disregarding stealth mechanics being broken, they kinda are.

This is where a more classic inventory system should be introduced, instead of this nonsense of unlimited capacity on your person and carry weight.

If instead you have the old-style inventory system of slot placements - let us use the Resident Evil 2 remake as an example - you have a finite number of slots in which your carried items can be, it is up to you to play a minigame of tetris to carry as much as possible. Can be extended by wearing backpacks, pouches, and such.

Remove the 'send to camp' feature, replace with a 'bag of holding' feature introduced later on in the game.

Although I would not mind just removing the 'send to camp' feature and not bother with 'bag of holding' because it is stupid.

Regardless of what wording Spiff uses for views, he is still pointing out issues in EA.
I've pointed at the AI several times on this forum and in the feedback I've sent to Larian directly.

It makes no sense that the AI does not react to their surroundings being packed with explosives, being pelted with missiles or watching their friends die around them.

I mean, yes.
It is an early access game as of right now, of course it is broken.

Spiffing brit does this for a living, I also don't really think he was insulting in regards to pointing out these broken systems, like me he just found a lot of hilarity in it.

There certainly are better ways to address the currently buggy systems other than going: "Ey, f- you for this bull*** broken game, fix it now you ***hats!"

Exaggeration promotes understanding, mind you.

You can carry exactly 2x your "carry weight" before you are encumbered. That should be reduced. so it limits the myriad complaints about barrelmancy (which honestly if you plan to spend that much time moving them around, you should be able to do it wit the finite amount of barrels there are) This would force someone to go back and forth from camp and still allows for its use as well keeping enough space for selling crud.

Lets not use RE2 slot placements as an example. Really dont want to play TETRIS.

Also needed is the fix to all storage boxes. Not only do they lack filtering, but if you pick something out of it while scrolling down, the window resets at the top of the box causing you to scroll down again, and again if you have items you need on the bottom of the list.

Considering how crafting has not been fully implemented without a reasonable replacement, no. So you are going to hold magic items for gale all day along with any weapons you find and armor since quest rewards are not like 5e where you get a decent amount of gold and have to rely on selling your crap?

yeah some sort of storage is needed to offset all of that, what if someone decides to go with a low str party? They absolutely should be able to EARN a bag of holding. (which cant hold a tons of those barrels)

The whole idea of a limited inventory is not even how you play 5e.

"Carrying Capacity. Your carrying Capacity is your Strength score multiplied by 15. This is the weight (in pounds) that you can carry, which is high enough that most characters don’t usually have to worry about it." straight from 5e.

Currently BG3 shows 10 per score (even through its really 20 per score. If it was 15 per score as in 5e, it would be fine.

Yes the AI should at least try to find you when you stealth, go to your last position etc.

If they are unable to reach you and cant do anything then sure stand there and maybe go for cover...or of you are like me, break the ladders that have 4 health....4 health.

i just posted this in another thread but i guess it doesn't hurt to repeat it here:

the changes to hiding compared to 5e baffle me a bit to be honest
hiding is the ultimate defensive move even in 5e it's really strong on rogues

in bg3 you can actually hide in plain sight as a bonus action and if you are unseen, behind cover, fully obscured, or outside of the tiny vision cones you don't even have to roll for stealth

in 5e you have to be unseen, behind total cover, or fully obscured just to attempt hiding as an action. and it's still used all the time!

I'm sorry what? What do you think 99% of game testing is? You have to push the game and mechanics to it's limit for bug testing, let alone balancing.

Let me give you a little example. Say you want to include a long stairway, and you add fencing on either side to prevent people from falling off or whatever. You then need to run the character model against every pixel at multiple speeds, including lower than normal and higher than normal to a degree that you believe cannot be attained in game. You then need to repeat this while under the affect of debuffs. Then you need to test being in combat against every pixel of this staircase and so on and such just to ensure that there is no way to break out of it. Don't throw out blasé accusations because you disagree with someone.

I am here to discuss a video game. Please do not try to rope me into anything other than that. Thank you.

It's not rare for people to be really good at identifying a problem but terrible at suggesting a solution.
This is one of these cases.

The easiest "fix" against the problem of "barrelmancy" is that it should be pretty fucking unlikely to have the strength to move FULL barrels around if you don't have an ogre's strength. They shoudl weight hundreds of kilograms, after all, and it just makes sense to have them as an unmovable part of the scenario (which is incidentally both more realistic and an implicit solution to exploits based on their accumulation).
A terrible solution, on the other hand, would be to solve this making inventory management even more painful that it already is.

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN
