Please do keep in mind, that the "magnetic sword on back" solution is hardly ever a matter of laziness. In Baldur's Gate 3 there will likely be a huge variety of weapons and armour, which will have to work together in almost any possible combination. Wearing your scabbard on your left hip may look fine if you're using a rapier and are wearing a leather armour, but might cause clipping issues when wearing a full plate armour. Wearing the weapons on the back is a simplification, which would be impractical in real life, no argument there, but implementing realistic scabbards/sheaths/straps would make things really complicated. It would also add an incredible amount of opportunities for mistakes, like the aforementioned clipping issues, which would look even worse than a two handed sword on the back. Considering that, I don't think we will get this anytime soon. Of course, there are always modders...

Yeah I don’t know why we need to try and rewrite all of video game history. Weapons on back is in everything from Mass Effect to Bannerlord. It’s not laziness. It’s deliberate choice. Seeing the weapons on the back tells the player at a glance the role of the character, let’s them appreciate some new weapon they just found, and keeps the devs from having to script 80 different weapon drawing animations.

LeaZal basically drags her two-handed behind her already. I’d say lower the fantasy stylization 50% before asking for hip-draw.

I’m sure a modded will give you hip draw later. Also keep in mind one of the most popular mods for Skyrim was a literally a swords on back mod. Some things we just don’t question because it’s a staple in games, like finding fresh food or new armor in a coffin.
