(I think I once heard that respecking will be available later on.)

I would love if we could distribute the named characters stats when we first recruit them.
Their builds come off as quite bad at times. So many odd numbers, and some "dump stats" that shouldn't be dump stats. Shadowheart uses medium armor, so 14 in dexterity is optimal for her, 10 is minimal in my poinion. But she get's a 9.

The sad thing is I have to spend level 4 on fixing the stats of the characters, and not make them better at what they are supposed to be good at.

Further more, especially when more subclasses becomes available, you might want to try a build where the characters distribution won't be very good. Eldrich Knight and Arcane Trickster are two such subclasses. (although we all know of a certain Ogre by now)

Allowing a redistribution could also gather data back to the development, and you could use an average of EA builds to use as the "suggested" stats at release?

i get the desire to change the origin companion stats on recruitment or on pc origin character creation (SH 9 dex can be tough to work around), but i dont think the player should be allowed to as i think it just works against the concept of an origin character, and ive commented on this before, but if you are making wholesale changes to an origin character along the lines of race, class, stats, etc. your really arent playing as the origin character - you are just making your own pc. i think it woud be neat to be able to take unique origin character features for gameplay/roleplay, like also have my pc be a vampire spawn for example or the need to 'eat' magic items, and i think that once you recruit an origin character and level them up to lvl two you should be free to multi-class them into whatever class you want (if they meet the attribute requirement), but again i feel like allowing players to revamp origin characters isnt a good design choice (especially if you could reallocate stats 'in world') - but i also am not a fan of the whole idea of origin characters to start with so take it for what its worth

Well it's an RPG, you'll have party members, so the Origin characters will not go away.

But I don't see why I souldn't be allowed to alter their stats, it's not what makes them "them". You get to make every other leveling choice for them. The first level ability distiribution is a massive part of a character design, poor choices here will hamper a character for the whole campaign.
You get 4-6 more ability points after this, that's not a whole lot, especially if you have to spend 2 of them to fix the bad character designs.
