It just feels a bit excessive to have half the named items in the game not be worth using because of the negative effects.

Sorrow's description mention it deals damage to the wielder at least.

There is a spear with the text description that it will grant you advantage on your next attack after a miss (aka true strike), instead it grant true strike (permanently it seems) to the enemies that you successfully hit.

But yeah, a lots seems worthless, maybe they just exist to feed Gale.

The spear works. Its confusing because your target will have "true strike" label on them. That just means that YOU have true strike against them, not the other way around.

The other items aren't cursed -- they are just items that only work if you have the mark of the absolute.

That's not my experience with that spear vs enemies or how true strike works when you cast the spell. Also, like I said, it is applied on hits, not misses.

As for the other mention, I'm not talking about the absolute items. I'm talking about Sorrow dealing damage to the wielder. The gnoll's mace causing madness if you don't deal damage each rounds. The poison robe poisoning the wearer. There is a bunch of those in the EA.
