Levelling and XP would be another problem. Charging through Level 2 encounters because you have become Level 6 elsewhere is not going to fun for everyone else unless they are of a similar level.

This is not an MMO, so there is no reason for gifting or playing with someone with a higher level to not be allowed as there is no need for an equal slate. Clearly most people are going to play with people they know, as again, this isnt a MMO or competitive game, and people will want consistent players. The ability to jump in and out of a friends game with your own unique character is required for this to be fun. It's a set game and the Unique items and what not are part of the fun. We know we can create our own character in a multiplayer game and play with our friends that way. This is a way to allow everyone to have a chance to gear up and be able to get those unique items, because as of right now, if my Ranger were to find a Flametongue (in the full release) and my fighter wanted it as well, there is no way to make sure both are able to get this amazing item. So its a gear fight with friends. Or what if I take the Crown of Intellect from one game to my baby Eldritch Knight. Now he has great stats for his class and I make him super charming or dexterous. Or I have my party made up of all friends and we have items the other wants. Maybe I want to dual wield flametongues on my Ranger or Fighter.

We all play the game differently, and with the way this game and D&D in general work, why would you not want to play with your own character??? There are countless other games, such as BG1&2, DA:O, and many others that save a copy of your character to use in another persons game. Its not about your perception of balance as what I or my friends do, dont impact you at all. I will never play a game with you, I can guarantee you that, so why you think that Character state would affect Game State is beyond me. Maybe its because you havent experienced how amazing it is to share your character with your friends? There are a lot of games that allow it and its an amazing feature. With the ability to create a character inside a friends game, there is no reason why we cant import a character from another save into another game. AGAIN its not a technological stretch for this feature. Its the same as making a character in someone else's game, youre just transferring a copy of your character to your friends game. It disrupts nothing! It takes away nothing! I dont care if you feel it makes the game too easy for you, im NOT playing with you. My wife struggles with the game and I want to make it more fun for her. My friends dont see value in this game without this feature and I want to play with them.

This isnt a feature about cheating or asking for the moon. The ability exist, currently in this very game. It's a matter of push to make sure we are able to do this. I like the idea of starting a new play through with a character I got attached to and need to wait 6months to 3 years for DLC or BG4. There is a reason people love BG1&2 as much as they do, and alot of it is the character transfer. So I do not understand your argument. Who doesnt want this? It gives you a chance to play your own game with character, then take that character over to a friends game and help them and watch their decisions, and then both of you take your character and go to another friends game to help them and watch their choices. You dont affect another persons game state, because those decisions were not made by your character. You are just there to play, enjoy your character, go to another friends game. Then after your bored of that character, create a new one, play with friends. This is not a new function. There is nothing stopping it from happening technology wise, so why do some of you feel the need to comment on things you clearly are not knowledgeable about.
