I think you are on to something and I've been thinking that Larian wants us to do this. That's why they gave him the necrotic aura.
In DOS2 a good strategy was to give one character the idol of resurrection -- you send a character to soak up all the initial attacks, the enemies take down the "idol" character who magically reappears, resets the idol, and continues to attack. In the mean time the rest of the party prepares the surfaces. Rise and repeat until you run out of "revival" scrolls.
