The Great Weapon Master feat is currently a toggled ability in the reactions window and I think Sneak attack for rogues would work well by using the same system. As it is I attempt to sneak attack with asterion every time anyway since it doesn't hurt my damage to try even if I'm not eligible for a sneak attack. I know I can tell whether or not it will happen by checking my advantages and disadvantages on my hit % but I just do it anyway. The added benefit of making it a toggle would allow us to add sneak attack damage to the first attack that lands. In 5e you can add your sneak attack damage to your bonus action offhand attack in the event your main-hand strike missed.

Yeah, sneak attack isn't an action in DnD, its a feature.

It's odd to me how they made Great Weapon Master, which is a choice you make for an action, and could easially have been an ability into a toggle. Meanwhile the feature that IS supposed to be "on a hit", therefore a toggle based on a ruleset, is made into an action.

Weird choice.

Sneak attack should absolutely be a toggle - in D&D it can also be applied on opportunity attacks, for example, and making it a toggle would fix that issue.

While I do think it's mishandled, no to toggle. It should be a passive ability, and it's not like it doesn't have the conditions laid out for applying it. The issue I have with a toggle is that positioning would no longer matter, and positioning is what it's all about.

Passive ability for sure, not toggle.
