I think it would increase variety to include an option in the game in which every new companion encountered rolls their stats upon meeting them. It would affect party comp in a unique way for a video game.

Making it an option would allow players who prefer certain caracters to avoid the likelihood of their favorite companion to have lousy stats, and it would add the excitment of rolling a character inside the game.

As for me, I find the current way to allocate stats satsifying except that I found out I can get 18 strength/intel level one, but can't do the same for dexterity for some reason? Was that a bug or an intended (and pretty surpisingly arbitrary) way of limiting level 1 PC power level?

Do you mean allocating their points buy? Or do you mean "rolling for stats" as in the system where you roll 6 numbers and allocate those 6 numbers? (Which is where the term "Rolling a character" comes from)

I'm all for being allowed to distribute their abilities ourselves, for the exact reasons you give.

How are you getting 18 Streght at level one? That shouldn't be possible with points buy and the races we have access to? With points buy the highest you should be able to set a stat is 15, and racial traits have a max of 2, so 17 should be max.

Please no. For pnp dnd it can work but also has the chance to have MASSIVE power differences between players. We had a campaign where 1 player had 3 18's and where some players dident have stats higher then (IIRC) 14. The powergap was massive.

Id prefer not having to spend 'reroll' for 15 minutes straight again like bg1 and bg2 char creation because I want to have at least semi decent stats xD point buy doesent give spectacular stats but its fair, its fast and the NPC's seem to have been rolled in the same manner.

I personally wouldn't mind rolling stats as an option, but the caps on point buy feel silly. 18's and 6's should be possible before racial buffs.

Ok, I might have given incorrect numbers. My mistake.

I did say to make it optional, so players who want to can make that decision for themselves and "roll" with it.

I agree. At first I thought the game was buggy. After a while I figured it was probably about balance and avoiding some players to become too powerful, too fast. It still kinda weirds me out, though, not gonna lie.

More options is never bad wink

Id love it and hate it at the same. There goes my spare time. Lost to rolling the perfect char 🤣
