I'm sorry, but what? When I was doing Renaissance fairs, I would sometimes carry a great sword, on my back. It hung on what amounts to a drying rack right at the base of my neck, attached to my shoulders with a very basic strap. How tall would one have to be to have a great sword attached at their hip and not be dragging it on the ground all the time? It doesn't take modern tech to be able to do this, I made my strap/hook with hand tools in my basement. It took longer to go to the store and get the materials than it took to make.
