If we go by lore, shouldn't clerics of Eilistraee have sword proficiency (and be female restricted, but that is a minor thing)?

Is deity weapon proficiencies even still a thing in 5e? I know her clerics could use bastard swords back in 3.5...

It depends on the Domain you choose. Twilight Domain clerics get martial weapon proficiency, for example.

Eilistraee's domains are Light, Life and Nature, none of which grant sword or martial weapon proficiency.

Speaking of Eilistraee clerics, aren't Lolth clerics also ONLY women? Bit odd that you can get a Male Lolth Cleric. Or even a surface elf Lolth cleric which is probably speed running to being sacrificed.

There is a severe lack of attention to detail in anything lore related but that might just be Early Access stuff.

Im talking about lore here. Clergy of Eilistraee as one of the rituals go on a monster hunt naked armed only with a sword.

In the PnP game, you can use weapons that you do not have proficiency for. You just don't get the Proficiency bonus. This ought to be a thing for BG3 as well. I know that the weapon flashes a big "You don't have proficiency" warning at you when you seem about to equip it, but I have never actually tried to force-equip despite this.

Yes, turns out that equipping your character with a non-proficiency weapon is just a case of hitting 'Equip' as usual. No drama. Wizard with a battleaxe? No problem.

You may not be as good with it as a trained class but, if the point is to make your character feel closer to your own vision, losing that +2 (it increases later) is no great hardship.
