That's been bothering me ever since I first saw it. Act 1 is a lot of player hours to spend without any real hint of how that happened. We can assume it was the Absolute's magic, or some inherent power in the tadpole that only manifests once (it doesn't save you elsewhere). I think Larian could drop a few more hints about it. Nothing was left that unexplained about the initial setup in the DOS games.

Back on topic -- There are two connected things that suggest Act 1 isn't complete yet:

First, Larian's statement that the party will probably be locked after Act 1. And second, the hints that there will be 4 more companions to choose from. That would mean Larian has to shove those 4 new companion encounters into Act 1 somewhere, including all the associated camp dialogs and inter-party drama.
