My father is a huge fan of D&D and so it didn't take too much convincing to have him try out the game.

I helped him create his character, but I was working so I couldn't watch as he stumbled through the opening wreckage.

A few hours later I checked in on him and he has a character,
"Zarah"
, in his party.

After some digging (Loaded his earliest save) I found that he STARTED his campaign with her in the Nautiloid ship.

I'm posting here because I can't find any mention of her on this Forum, the FextraLife Wiki, or Reddit.

Has anyone else encountered this NPC as a companion?

EDIT: We figured it out! Apparently, someone, somehow, joined my fathers game, and left their character when they abandoned the campaign. Very strange, not sure how it happened.

Does anyone know how to remove this Character from the party?

Hmm, could he have created two player characters by launching two instances of the game and joining his own multiplayer game? Or just asked any friend to make a char and then abandon the game? Because you can get full four custom characters in your party if you want, and revert the control of all of them to a single player, if you want.

Dad's not that smart. I posted on the Reddit, too, and it seems the common thought is that someone, somehow, joined his party while he was making it, and when the game actually started, the other person left.

My father has been able to control this second NPC from the beginning, however, he cannot talk to her.

Ahh right. Then I guess you have "Online game visibility" from options set as "Anybody". Might want to change that, unless you enjoy these surprise visitors.

I checked, the Online game visibility is set to "Nobody" and the in-game Session Settings is set to "Closed (default)" so I have no idea how this person joined the party.

In that case, rather weird. I've never had anyone join my games, but no doubt it could be some kind of a bug that allows that despite your selected options. In any case, I do agree that someone probably joined the game. That's the most probable answer.

He should be able to kick that custom character out by pressing ESC and selecting "Session" from there. Unless he just likes a custom rogue in the party.

I cannot kick the Rogue from the party. For whatever reason, the Rogue is in my fathers party, and not a second player...
