How do you feel about this idea: to give the player a choice FROM THE FIRST VISIT when attacking the goblins on the grove?
By default, we must help the people who are protecting the grove. What if I don't want to help them? They didn't even ask me. It would be possible to help the goblins to kill the guards at the gate, and return with them to the "evil camp"

This would make it easier for many players to find this option help goblins (one of the ways)
The same goblins could tell us about the absolute, and give some information.

Thanks to Larian for Baldurs Gate 3 and the reaction to player feedback

I posted about this yesterday in some random thread. Either the option or something in the cut-scene telling me that the goblins are hostile towards me. It would be enough, in my opinion, to have the cut-scene start with a goblin spotting us and attacking on site, then showing the group continuing towards the sound of an ongoing battle. Another option would be dialogue interaction between you and a grove guard, getting a request for help by the guard and stating your intentions to 1) help grove, 2) help attackers, or 3) to stay out of it.

However, it doesn't make much sense to come across the battle and have predetermined allies/enemies before either party even spot you.

But you can help the goblins ...
You totally can start attacking defenders (im quite sure of it, since you can attack even people from your own group)

But once you kill defenders, goblins will turn on you (or more like while you do that) ...
wich is something they would totally do, since you dont belong to them.
And once you kill goblins, defenters will turn on you (or more like while you do that) ...
wich is something they would totally do, since you attacked them.

From gameperspective it could be simple missclick ... but from RPG perspective, you just "accidently" put your sword in someones guts, and usualy people dont forget such things so easily. laugh

/edit:
I think its fine as it is ...
Or do you really need conversation before every encounter to choose wich side you will join? :-/
The encounter started ... there is group one that is or isnt hostile to you ... and group two that is or isnt hostile to you ... all depends on groups and you.
For example in the Underdark there is quite possible to meet Bullet that is attacking some Hooked Horrors ... they dont even notice you if you stay hidden, and just fight each other ... but if you join the fight, they are both hostile to you aswell as each other.
That said ... i need to try sometimes "stay out" (read as: Keep in stealth, and skipping all my turns) of druid groove fight ... it will probably be quite boring ... yet i really wish to see the outcome. laugh

I have a bigger issue with this if you are playing a Drow. There are many scenes where being a Drow has the Goblins acting subservient to you. Then there must kill the goblins at the gate and bit later, if you use the hidden back passageway to escort Sazza out of the grove, their a batch of Goblin in it that attack on sight while you have Sazza with you.

I think the issue is Larian is trying to weave the Good, Bad or Mercenary story arcs so you can flip around with each encounter. That must be a nightmare to storyboard.

If we were asked at the start, Good, Neutral or Evil, Larian could tailor encounters / story to match what style of playthrough we want?

If not using different paths, I can see how they could improve this without redoing the map a bit? Attacking people at the gate should trigger the Tieflings to be hostile so why would they even let you inside?

Moving the returning NPC away from the gate so the grove can not see them and have them attacked by a group of Goblins so you can pick a side?

1. Attack Goblins, saving the humans and then NPC lead you to the Grove, proceed as before from where Zelvor and Human have their spat.
2. Attack Humans and after they are dead, Goblins lead you to their camp, meet Minthara, she come up with you find the grove for her quest. Later she could send a party of Goblins to attack the gate so you could defeat them to befriend the grove. I could see a Drow tossing away a dozen Goblins to do a ruse.

You're just not supposed to do it lol

Larian's Biggest Oversight, what to do about it, and My personal review of BG3 EA
"74.85% of you stood with the Tieflings, and 25.15% of you sided with Minthara. Good outweighs evil, it seems."
