Some dialogues give you the option of replying as if you're from Baldur's Gate. I forget if drow get them, but they are there.

Githyanki, Drow, and Gale (he's from Waterdeep) don't get the [Baldurian] tagged dialogue options, but everyone else does.

I always choose Lolth-Sworn Drow. First of all, I like Lolth, I really like this goddess, her methods, I like everything about her. But here it is important to say about game mechanics. Lolth-Sworn Drow has more evil options. I also want to play as a cleric in one of the playthroughs, and I think Lolth-Sworn Drow is a great for that. In game, Seldarine Drow are positioned as neutral or good, but not as "neutral evil". I know you can still play as evil, but you will have fewer evil options.

You can also tell others that you are from Menzoberranzan. Well, not exactly... You can say that the Underdark is your home in several situations. I find it useful and enjoyable.

Lolth's test (https://www.realmshelps.net/charbuild/races/elf/drow2.shtml) is an example of why I don't want to play Lolth drow. What do you think? Which drow do you choose?

By the way, I want to ask lovers of sworn Lolth-Sworn Drow, would you like the mechanics of this test to be in play when you level up your drow?

Lolth-Sworn Drow
Raised by Lolth's cult in the city of Menzoberranzan, these drow extol the virtues of their corrupt and merciless goddess. Lolth marks her followers with bright red eyes so the Underdark will learn to fear drow on sight.

VS

Seldarine Drow
Drow are the result of an ancient schism between the elven deities Corellon Larethian and Lolth. The latter's treachery drove the drow into the Underdark, where they splintered into warring factions. Seldarine drow can be found seeking allies from all over Faerun, aiming to settle their conflict with Lolth - and each other - by any means necessary.

Lolth-sworn drow being chaotic evil is a misconception. It's not because Lolth herself is that her followers have to be. For instance, in 5e, the priestesses of Lolth are neutral evil. And I am pretty sure you can play a loyal evil follower of Lloth as well.

The real comparison I would make between the two factions is one being racist and cruel, considering itself better than any other races and playing the game of backstabbing their neighbors, while Seldarine would be opened to the world and interested in mingling with other races.

But it doesn't mean you couldn't have an evil seldarine character. And there are examples of Lloth-sworns who end up being neutral, like Drizzt.

I honestly think Seldarine drow exist because WoTC got fed up of the Drizzt clones.

To combat people making copies of a violet-eyed drow renegade, they made all drow renegades violet-eyed? That's the exact opposite of discouraging drizzt clones.

Still I would rather prefer to see High Elves split into Sun Elf and Moon Elf, like in NWN2 and IWD2, than see the drow race split.[/quote]

I like this idea. I also think wood elves being split into wood elves and wild elves could be interesting too.

Moon and Sun elves definitely seem like they should be different subraces. Not only are they fairly distinct in appearance, but culturally as well. To the point that they have come to blows over their differences on more than one occasion.

Wood/Green Elves is a more subtle distinction since they are very similar ethnically, to the point that even many elves don't even distinguish the two groups-it's more of a cultural thing. Still a better basis for distinct subraces than the Seldarine/Lolthsworn thing, IMO.

It's that or have a legion of drow that directly contradict the canon.

...What? Like I said. This does absolutely nothing to discourage Drizzt clones. If anything, it makes any drow renegade significantly more Drizzt-like, because Drizzt had violet eyes. It doesn't say 'you can't be a drow renegade any more' it's 'you can be a drow renegade, you just have to have violet eyes like Drizzt now'. And setting aside the fact that there has canonically been large numbers of organized non-lolth worshipping drow for irl decades at this point, the eye color thing itself is a break from prior canon.
