I entered the hideout using the password and spoke to Zarys, giving her the Chest. However, she then ordered her goons to kill me as the chest had been opened, saying that she has told me not to open it. As this was the first time we had met, I'm not sure how she could have told me this. There needs to be some thought given to the possibility that the party may have a valid reason for the chest having been opened. The gnolls may have managed to open it before the party killed them and a dying Zhent asked them to deliver it. A persuasion check could be used to determine if this was believed.

Following on from the fight with Zarys, Ithen spoke to Oskar who told asked me to free him by buying him from Brem. As Brem was dead on the floor not 2 feet away from him, I would have expected him to realise he was already free, to thank me, offer a reward and then either run for it or ask if we could escort him somewhere.

Also, when speaking to Brem prior to the fight, he hints at being able to trade better goods after/if I get into Zarys' good books, but when you loot his body, he only has his standard goods plus anything you sold him.None of the chests contain anything that is much better, so not sure if I had actually delivered the chest unopened, if I would have been offered higher quality gear or not.

Also having major issues here. Didn't understand why Zarys was blowing up the room. So I cast jump on Asterion, jumped from the area before the first door to the platform next to her. One shot her with Wyvern poison and looted the room. Tried to talk to the artist but he wouldn't start a dialogue so I explore the rest of the cave... ran into Brem and his buddies. Wiped them out (including pushing Brem off a cliff into the water below). Returned to the artist and he told me to talk to Brem... but Brem's gone forever. And now, I can't save. I think it thinks I am still in a potential dialogue with Zarys. I have short rested, long rested and fast travelled around ... still can't save.

Trader's generally never drop their inventory, unless it's thing that the player traded to them. That has been consistent in my playthroughs at least. So it shouldn't matter in this case if you had access to the exotic items or not.

In order to get access you need to make sure the cargo is intact. Even if they blame Zarys you will not be proclaimed a friend of the Z unless it's intact.

Got issues with this quest too, I stealed the chest but didn't open it. When I got back to her even with it in the inventory, well even when I dropped the shipment in front of her, she acted like I haven't it.

I got annoyed and ended up killing her.

When I talk to Zarys, the quest doesn't update, so Brem won't show me his full inventory. Zarys just repeats her lines over and over no matter how many times I talk to her. When I long rest from the hideout, the game crashes when I try to return from camp.

itsed, while you wouldnt have been told from her not to open it, if you had searched the bodies with the carts that can initiate the quest, one of the letters on the corpses says something like "do not open the package, if you have I will know, because you will already be dead." If you just wandered into the gnoll fight with the zent survivors you would not know though.

OK, so on my second walkthrough, I presented the chest untouched and Zarys proclaimed me a friend of the Zhents, but Brem still tells me that he can't show me the "good stuff, friends of the Zhents only!"....On top of this, as soon as any of the Zhents in the rear of the hideout see my party,they kick off a fight for no apparent reason.

I kept the traders alive and let them bring the chest, (even though I had picked the lock and emptied it) And everyone was cool with that.

Same issue returned the chest unopened to Zarys and got the correct unopened cutscene ...
However completed quest reports that "we kept quiet about the shipment."
