I would argue that Find Familiar should be treated as a ritual and use a spell slot. This is the case with the Beast Tamer Ranger.
The point of ritual casting is to NOT waste spell slots. Familiar is supposed to be near useless in normal combat which is not the case with Ranger's pet.
