I mean, my mage is level 3, she's got 20HP and AC 16 with dex 16 (+3 +3). But the enemies don't even get to me. They are literally destroyed before that. Now I understand why some dudes can solo the act 1 entirely with a wizard. It's a piece of cake. So many tools at their disposal.
Let's take an example. When I was level 2, I killed Netty with only cantrips and my crow familiar. Every turn, he was blinding her and I just had to spam my fire and ice cantrips from afar. She couldn't do anything. And I was 14HP while she got to 32 in spider form. It's not even funny how easy it is.
And the fact we can spam long rest makes them insanely powerful.
