I have to admit I get confused by people who say said character died?! Becasue we have plenty of Rez scrolls and the undead companion in camp...
There are cases when you can't do that, like when you kill them before they join.
It's a good way to get rid of companions you don't want, because the game is bugged for now, and they could still show up at camp later. Otherwise would be no need to do it.
