1. I just mean that never played or saw anyone playing it, so I'm definitely not an expert in D&D

2. I love PvP games and I actually like being beaten in a fair fight, because it's very boring if I win every time. This is just an example (though real) of a situation where one can enjoy losing or "being beaten", because leads to improvement, and becoming better at something one likes to do, is much fun. Your example works as well: could be many other reasons, but what matters is that some people likes failures (again for good reasons)

3. I already enjoy the game as it is, but of course a mod here and there can allow to remove parts I don't like, and also add things I miss. I don't want to change the whole game, unless there can be a way to satisfy everyone (and only mod tools can do that).
Of course I meant all that dice roll stuff about dialogues only, not the fights (dice rolls are fine there).

Unfortunately, text can often mask some of the true meaning of what we are trying to say. I honestly thought when you talked about enjoying being beaten that you were making an allusion to literally being beaten like physically lol. Ah well, I'm not too proud to admit when I am mistaken.

I like having some game over 'fail states'. It forces me to think about my actions more, adds tension, and makes the overall gameplay more fun. At least for me. If you fail the roll and have to restart its a "Ooop I need to be careful moment" and if you make the roll you realize just how close you came to dying.

Good point. It does serve to tell the player "Mind Flayers are bloody dangerous ! Beware".
( Mind you, in my case, I knew that already so I just killed it quickly the first time I met it. You have a point though that some deaths can be interesting in the gameplay.)

For other recent comments : this is just feedback as Larian said they wanted failed rolls to continue the story so players do not feel the need to reload.

Yes, for anyone reading this that isn't familiar with D&D, mind flayers are one of the most powerful and feared 'monsters' in the game. They are all powerful psionicists and most people that aren't playing a holy class tend to steal points from wisdom to put elsewhere which makes them more susceptible to psionic abilities. Plus mind flayers are also hideously creepy looking :P

After playing Disco Elysium its kind of a shame BG3 didn't do just a bit of this...failed roles leading to new opportunities; opening up a new quest line, getting a certain item, starting combat at an advantage (making a fool of yourself trying to persuade, leading to an enemy laughing and slipping down a roof...lol)...

Strangely, I failed a dialogue roll with the Mindflayer (got a 1 too) and he didn't eat my brain. That was the day after the EA released.

I'm actually wondering which dialogue sequence people have to follow to get that event, because not all of the Mindflayer dialog DCs lead to him eating your brain.

Its novel to fail occasionally, to fail constantly is not fun at all.. And anyone who enjoys failing constantly, i'm sorry to say they need to seek help.. Its not healthy to be enjoying being degraded by a game or anything.

Ha! I can agree with that. smile And I don't think BG3 is anywhere near in danger of that. If someone is failing constantly then they are doing something wrong. It possible some folks are failing lots of proficiency checks because they don't have the necessary proficiency or ability scores . . . but if that is the case they shouldn't be attempting those checks. BG3 does a pretty good job of providing multiple skill alternatives to attempt things.
