Math is simple, fanboy: Larian bid for the rights to the "Baldur's Gate" name because Tens of Millions of individuals have played it and it is (along with Neverwinter Nights) considered to be The Finest and Most Recognized Video Game RPG (along with "Torment", which was a "Baldur's Gate 'derivative'") Ever Made - Definitive Statement of Fact. Larian bought those rights because it gave their product Instant and Vast Name Recognition thus Significantly Enhancing the Possibility of Financial Windfall. They do Not care - in the SLIGHTEST - if it is "Baldur's Gate" for the "sake of 'Baldur's Gate'", it could just as well been "Bob's Magical RPG 3" if "Bob's Magical RPG" was a noted and vastly financially successful franchise. And, because they have created moderately successful RPG's themselves (if not even Remotely as Noteworthy as "Baldur's Gate" - has anyone, Ever, said, "Divinity: Original Sin" is the Best RPG ever made."...) and have never played "Baldur's Gate" (just a simple financial transaction), they have felt perfectly justified in completely shitting on virtually EVERYTHING "Baldur's Gate" was.
