There is a published D&D adventure called Murder In Baldur's Gate that is basically the continuation of the story from Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, and bridges the gap from those games to the current timeline of Faerun. It's worth checking out, as it includes the resurrection of Bhaal and the death of the Baldur's Gate protagonist, among other things. It is considered canon, so it's events inform what happens in BG3.
