I agree. Also would it not be better if the creature would say ' us is here' instead of 'we are here' on the ship?
Well, the whole thing with it calling itself "Us" is that it's not an individual with a singular mind. It's part of a hivemind, so both us "Us" and "We" is appropriate when it speaks of itself. "Us is here" would actually make less sense, at least from a grammatical standpoint.
