Ok so, playing D:OS 2 I noticed, as probably all of us did, that enemies always spawn on the most unforunate places for you, and very beneficial for them (witch Radeka comes to my mind right now). I assume that's by design, and I guess that's fine because most of you think that you should manually position you party before fight or even attack enemy/npc before talking to them, and also buff up before the fight.

Well...here is the real problem, in my head all of this is unfair and there is no sense attacking someone before talking to them (yes I know i can talk to npc, see what they say, then reload and then attack immedietly but it doas not feel the right way to do it). So I never do it except if I'm really desperate and didn't manage to win a fight after 20 tries. And I feel dirty after doing it. I even buff up only when already engaged in fight, never before. Also never breaking game mechanics.

Playing like that I get a huge impression game is strongly unfair/countered to player. Lowering the difficulity is not an option as i feel it would not be challenging. Never even tried anything lower then tactician, not even for science.

So...wth do I do now?
Is the game meant to be played by "abusing" above mentioned systems and im just playing it wrong?
Do you think BG 3 will be the same way?

I do the same as you do and only prep for battles that my characters would be able to predict.

I was able to manage all the battles in BG3 this way and was much easier than DOS2.

People are complaining about BG3, but DOS 2 is way more unfair.

As Im not going to play BG 3 before full release I really hope they can do something to avoid that kind of "unfair" experience but still maintain game challenging.
IMO battles are only hard because your party if not manually repositioned before fight, is at huge disadvantage.

Remember how enemies know just that tiny millimeter perfect spot where they can stand and hit you but you cant reach them? And there is no way you can do the same to them because we have no option check LOS before moving to that spot.
Is that still a thing in BG 3?

I dunno ... positioning seem quite ok to me in this game ...
But i usualy send only protagonist to conversations, while stealth other characters around "in case conversation goes wrong" ...

So then i start on quite beneficial places for me. :-/

I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. frown
Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are! frown

I see less of it in BG3, mostly because you can engage from different angles.

What I have noticed though, is that I often start combat either really far away, or in very clumped together situations.

Take the fight at the gate. You have the potential to start in such a way that you have to dash at least once, if not twice, for your melee characters to get into position.
Or at the "fight on two rooftops" in Blighted Village, here too the melee characters are stuck running 90% of the fight, unless you know what you are doing.

But it's a bit difficult to really balance what's a good starting position, since we can position ourselves quite a bit.
