Agreeing with the "no's" here. As someone mentioned in the FR setting, smokepowder is unreliable, at best. You might see some gnomish inventions with it, and dwarves might use it to blast mine, but even that is only when absolutely necessary, but in small portable mode, no. It becomes as dangerous to the user as it does to anything you're shooting at.
But good to get the brain gears cranking. Any suggestion should be made and given at least a small measure of consideration.
