In the same spirit as what MrFuji3 is saying, it is a rare feature that is the trademark of 5e Goblins. They are weak, but can stealth and Disengage. With tactics/ambushes, they can hurt or destroy low level players.

In BG3, the issue I had, is many Goblins throw powerful explosive cocktails that can do way tooo much damage !
like 15 to 20 fire damage +1d4 damage from the bottle +1d4 fire splash (aaaaahhhh!)
Oh, and they boosted their HP I believe.

Suggestion : thrown fire bottles from Goblins could do 1d6 fire damage (or 2d4 if really efficient) plus 1d2 splash AOE, period.

Other tweak : not sure the bottle damage should be added or maybe it should do 1d2, but whatever.
- 5e 1d4 damage from improvised thrown items is a bit odd considering many weapons do only 1d6 (but that is 5e not Larian's fault).

I just did the gith fight with a two person lvl 4 party no cheese, no barrels, no scrolls, no pre-setup except for having aid up, and I used one (1) alchemists fire. Just walked straight in there, had a chat, called them traitors then dealt from there. Took 2 reloads before I got it. Only possible because I've been playing the EA a lot, but it goes to show that it can be done - to link bg1 and 2, i used to end up with a tpw all the time when I was first playing - walking into fights without knowing what was going to happen, walking into areas I wasn't leveled for, not understanding properly how spells worked and which ones to use, but now its super easy to run through on insanity with SCS installed because i've been playing it for years. I like the difficulty of BG3 as it stands, including the throwables, and I like the challenging fights, and I'm sure there will be a difficulty slider, just like BG1 and 2 had difficulty sliders.

What is most frustrating are the bugs and the clunky controls for positioning, moving around, difficult to see indicators for attacks of opportunity, that sort of stuff. As well as the enemy AI being pretty stupid.

Since any form of proof is missing I call bullshit!

That is a lvl 3 goblin dealing 60+ damage to your party in one turn! Another thing this game has is a special ability that allows ranged lvl 3 gnolls THREE attacks for one turn. And the big gnoll can one shot EVERY member of your party.
I enjoyed DOS 1 and 2 but in this game I have currently ZERO fun. And combat hasn't changed one bit since the EA! Sadly it looks like this game was a waste of money and time.

There was no need to resurrect a 3 years old thread for this remark.

The game is also currently A LOT easier than when this thread was made, since tha cap back then was at level 4.

This is my first time seeing this thread, so I'll chime in.

I hate the combat and the only reason I even play this game is because a working AI mod for companions exists.

(P.S. Even the original Baldur's Gate game had rudimentary companion AI at release in 1998 and that's how I played it.)

Counterpoint: the combat (despise a couple of questionable choices Larian made adapting the ruleset) is the absolute highlight of the game.

And "companion AI" in a party-based tactical game is conceptually garbage.
