I never fed him any artifacts (I hope that necromancy book he agreed to take care of doesn't count) and I still got the Weave scene in the camp. It is probably just bugged. I am waiting until they do another major patch with gameplay fixes to continue with anything. It seems to be a waste of time otherwise, unless you are seriously into testing and bug reporting.
