It would be great if they put some side quest for classes like cleric, paladin or warlock. For example: If I create cleric. Maybe some times after long rest (from time to time. It will be silly to be every night) my deity (or maybe His messenger like angle or something) comes through some vision in my dreams and gives me some side quest to do for him. It feels like those spells that we can cast that deity give us are without cost. We should do something in return. Same goes for warlock and his patron. Also maybe I am asking too much but what if we don’t do does side quests and ignore them. Maybe then we can’t cast spells anymore. Of course not of the rest of the game but maybe until we complete some like redemption side quest.

Usually I'm all up for Larian giving us (or not removing from us) opportunities for roleplay.

But the problems, in giving quests to all these classes with patrons (whether they are deities or not), are that :
a) this would (probably) mean way too much work for Larian. I don't have in mind right now how many gods they have included already, but they should probably double that number if they want to give a fair sample of gods. Each god would (in my view) need to have a different quest ... the amount of content to create just explodes.
b) this would restrict a bit the player's freedom to choose how their character interacts with their deity. Not all clerics of a given deity are the same.

So, I doubt this be a thing Larian will really consider doing.

I think this would be a really great addition, or at least more involvement from your gods/something more specific to your god. Perhaps if full fledged quests, items, characters, etc. for specific deities would be too difficult, it would be cool to have quests specific for evil clerics, good clerics, etc. Mind you, I'm biased as my favourite character is a cleric of bhaal so...

I intend to play an evil cleric too. But really, I don't think they can give quests specific to some classes (Cleric, Paladin, Druid, Ranger, Warlock). Because then, there would be the next question : how about quests for other classes too ? Can evil Rogues join The Guild ? Can Mages make a breakthrough discovery and create a new spell ? The thing is, within each class, there are several archetypes, and several adventurers' profiles that can be interpreted as being that class/archetype. I feel that the class-related (or better, character-related) quest is hard to pull in a video game, without being too restrictive about who your character is.

I'll be very happy if we have enough generic dialogue options to be able to roleplay a bit our character's personality, and a few specific dialogue options that use our class (or race, or else) from time to time, as well as people reacting differently (like they sometimes reacts to a drow, at the moment).

Interesting idea. But remember the whole Deity/Followers affair is changed a lot with the 5th edition. In the 5th editions gods tend to be more quiet than in past they select a chosen but that's about it. In the other editions Deities could appear as form of Avatar.

A similar thread to this one came up a week or so ago. I agree with the sentiment.

Personally I think it'd be nice if clerics, paladins, warlocks, and maybe druids experienced a unique dream sequence where they're contacted by their god/patron/nature and warned about the parasite and instructed by their god/patron/nature on how to proceed. Gods would likely insist on getting it removed. Patrons might suggest their warlock learn to harness it. Nature would direct the PC toward Halsin to have it removed.

It'd need to be vague and disembodied though. Maybe just a voice. Some symbols. That way Larian doesn't need to make 20+ different cinematics for each variant. Maybe it could just be a cut-scene of the PC kneeling down to pray/meditate and we get a voice in our heads.

Either way, some divine direction would be hugely flavorful and give clerics/warlocks/druids a sense of still being connected to the higher power they've sworn their lives to. It would also give them guidance on how to go about the main questline, so you wouldn't need an entirely unique side quest just for them.

I agree that deities should be involved a little bit more.
Im just not sure, if quest is the right way here. :-/
I would recomend some conversation reactions ... it may not even be regular dialogue, maybe just some mentioning that you start to feel discomfort, or strong feeling of contempt / disappointment overwhelms your mind. That sounds adequate.

Since right now is entirely possible to play Selfless and allways helping Life Domain Cleric of Lolth ... or Baal ... or w/e ...
Some things should be once aggain restricted here. :-/

I still dont understand why cant we change Race for our hirelings. frown
Lets us play Githyanki as racist as they trully are! frown

I agree domains should be restricted to what makes sense (Light/Life Shar cleric? really?), but I had a thought that maybe it's an EA thing - as there are only three domains, restrictions would mean there's not much choice. Perhaps when more domains get implemented, we also get domain/deity restrictions.

I hope so. smile
But still ... i think there should be some interpretation of chosen deity in your actions ...

Like if you choose to be Death Cleric of Ball ... you should get some responce, if you choose to help someone. :-/
Same as if you will play Life Cleric of Tyr, and you choose ignore someone in need ... or choose to ignore some fiend nest. :-/

//Edit:
Personaly i hope for even possibility of some kind of forced respecing in game if your deity forsake you, since you betrayed her way ...
For example:
I start as Life Cleric of Tyr (Or Silvanus, that is even beter) ... yet i choose to join Goblins and wipe whole Druid groove ... Tyr will give me a vision (think about it as conversation) where he will tell me how much i disapointed him and abandon me ... then all my spells related to him are locked, since i cant cast without deity involvement ... yet after long rest, another vision comes to me, for example Baal come to me, to tell me that he is pleased with my actions at Druid groove, and ofer me his patronage instead ... then my class will be reseted to Cleric level 1 once aggain (we probably should be able to get instantly on same level tho, for game ballancing purposes ... so i am now cleric level 1, but four levels are waiting for me to level up).
Maybe it is a little (a lot actualy) conceit to expect gods to talk to single cleric ... but i still think that our deity choosing should have a bit more serious consequences than few special dialog options. smile

I don't think its that complicated. They put in game more general side quests. They put in game quests in relation with your background. So some small quest or task from your deity like: "find lost artifact in ruined temple" or "bring me specific scroll from library", would be nice touch.
