I bet they could go to Kickstarter and raise a million dollars to gauge interest.
I'm happy to believe you meant something different from what you wrote ... because that's not how KS works. If you raise 1 million dollars and that amount is enough for your "project", you have to deliver. If you found there was not enough interest, you don't undertake production. You don't raise 1 million dollars in order to gauge interest :P
As for my interest in such a product ... I'm doubtful. Back in the days, when Final Fantasy 7 was the first FF released in Europe, we would buy (soft-cover) walkthrough guides, with all the secrets and stuff. But now there's internet. Someone can figure out a new, better strategy after the release of the guide and post it on a Wiki. The studio can release a patch that changes combat balance. So many ways the print can be rendered obsolete.
An art book however, that would be a different question ...
