The first impressions are really positive as far as the gameplay and the ruleset tie-in go (while taking freedoms, this certainly isn't a mess that was Sword Coast Legends), however there is a minor concern that Githzerai won't make it into the game as a playable race.
Considering how the original rules cover both of the Gith peoples, and how a Githzerai character would really nicely fit the narrative (the whole illithid predicament plus a potential clash with Lae'zel), while also paying homage to Dak'kon and Zhjaeve, it would be really nice to see them added at some point. The worry is that the race is already listed as "Githyanki", and not "Gith", so there may not be any plans to implement the Githzerai at all.

I seriously hope that we will have a githzerai subrace. Since we have seldarine drow and lolth sworn drow, it's pretty much the same in "toad".

An illithid plot, a githyanki companion? And no githzerai in the mix? Unacceptable!

In seriousness, I wouldn't worry about githyanki being a separate race. That could be for engine/reactivity/tagging reasons. Or as to keep the secret of playable githzerai from the players. However, what makes me worry we might not see githzerai is that while they're one of the best races for the game narratively, they're also one of the most difficult to implement in terms of reactivity. They are a very alien culture, which would need custom interactions, like githyanki; but they're also very different from githyanki culturally, so their dialogue couldn't be copy-pasted.

I really hope they're added though. Such a great fit for the game; would be a wasted opportunity.

I think we might get Githzerai later maybe? And they will probably change the githyanki to be a sub-race of Gith, it probably wont be separate thing like Drow... I would however like Githzerai to be like one inch shorter thank yanki, for literally no reason except that its funny to me.

The idea that we might not get Githzerai is crazy to me. They wouldn't even need new models or animations. They're basically Githyanki with different stats as far as gameplay goes.

I have a really fun idea for a Githzerai druid who travels the realms studying "wildlife" and wants to bring knowledge of the various animal kingdoms back to Limbo. Really want to play him.

Githzerai are my favorite race in D&D, and I really hope we can play them.
