Shortly after escaping the Nautiloid crash my Githyanki Wizard had the Mysterious Artefact show up in his inventory. I do not remember finding it or picking it up. Attempting to use it does trigger a cut scene. Shadowheart still also has it in her possession. As the scene with her examining it in camp just played out for me (much further along in the game).
