Abelard is a serial killer who decided that if he wants to stay alive he will have to find a line of work, where his lifestyle is both profitable and legal, which is why he became a sailor. Leaving behind all his ties to his past life he fled Waterdeep after the noose started to tighten around his neck concerning the ritualistic dismemberment of a dozen beggars. He assumed a new identity to avoid capture and for a decade he served on the Admiral's Pride, with the most famous pirate-hunter crew of Baldur's Gate. Fitting in was easy, and the work provided him with the freedom he always craved, and over the years he distinguished himself as the most driven of the crew, picking off pirates from afar with his crossbow and always being the first to board enemy ships. He racked up the highest bodycount in the past decade, which not only made him into a celebrated icon of the Sword Coast, but also provided him a reputation he could hide behind, so Abelard thought it safe to return to Baldurs Gate as a... citizen.
With a decade's worth of his wages, and the experience that would be the envy of the most battlehardened soldier, Abelard planned to set up his own mercenary company before he found himself in a strange dark pod without being able to move...
