For me it's really hard to create backgrounds for characters when I don't know how the game is going to treat them... for example I wouldn't create a character from Baldur's Gate when the game plays there and I have no clue what actually is going on there - so my choice would be rather a foreigner, but the game keeps calling them Baldurian... its feels off...

Never the less, I hope to run a custom party at some point with some connection to the past (even if the timeline is questionable) if the game doesn't pick up this thema for their own storyline:

Gorion DeVir (Half Drow, vengance Paladin with a touch of fiendish Warlock)
He grew up without ever meeting his father. His mother though told him his name was choosen in honor of that man. Gorion only knew that the man became a hero in the city of Baldur's Gate before reuniting with his mother for a short while later in life.

Gorion and his mother used to travel around, never staying too long, always avoiding too much attention. She educated him in how to be a noble, for no matter their current circumstances, he had a proud background. After his mother's death at the hands yochlols he swears vengance against all worshipers of Lolth and starts his journey to find out more about his father. As he sets of on his adventure something seems to awake within him... something dark... still his journey leads him to Baldur's Gate where he gets the reception one would expect when drow blood runs through their veins. Willing to prove himself to gain entry he takes a job to hunt down a suspected Amnish spy that just escaped his capture by fleeing to Athkatla - a place Gorion knows nothing about...

Arkhan (Human, hopefully an urban gloom stalker ranger, if not a hunter will have to suffice)
Arkhan grew up a son of a simple Amnish merchant, spending most of his life on ships travelling the coast up and down. Still this peaceful life turned out not to be for him, for the only joy he felt, besides being at sea, was fending off pirate attacks. So he turned his passion into a profession and started to work as a pirate hunter. His profession kept him traveling the Sword Coast like in his youth, just with more fun by bashing a couple of skulls (who all deserved it - at least that's what the their warrants claimed - but it was definitely fun).

Finding work in Baldur's Gate usually was tough due to his origin, but people started to get to used to see his face every now and then between jobs. Still he should take a clue about how much they liked him, when he turned out to be recommended to a newcomer as guide to Athkatla... I mean come on, why else send you a Drow as client?... But a job is a job and if nothing else finding the half Drow's target could get him some reputation with the right people in Baldur's Gate for future jobs...

Rajsha Corthala (half elf bard... because she harps)
Rajsha's beauty wasn't the only reason why she was known around the city's nobility. Being a Corthala meant something around here - well, at least it used to. Long gone are the days of vampire and mage hunting that made her ancestor a known hero. These days her fame in those circles was mainly just from her ability to entertain them with music and a marvelous voice. To be honest her interest in the people themselves was also more professional than anything else. Being around drunk rich and powerful you end up with information that you usually would have to pay a hefty sum on the street - and her master Jaheira definitely valued these snipets of knowledge.

The latest news though didn't come from some fancy court, but from some friends at the docs. A Half-Drow came to town looking for a local merchant with ties to Baldur's Gate. Rajsha's master had him in sights for several months already for he seemed like trouble, so the bard made sure the hunters would stumble across the right people and find themselves in the right places to speed up the process. The report of the mission's success though sparked an interesting reaction from Jaheira once she was told the name of the Half-Drow. Now Rajsha finds herself packing, with some strange task to join the two bounty hunters' journey back to Baldur's Gate and keep an eye on the half elf reporting back. Convincing the duo to let her follow along shouldn't be a hard task especially once she delivers the warning that the ship crews shouldn't be trusted for the merchant has many of them in his pocket. The group will find themselves travelling north on foot...

Nynthia Byoerndaugthyr (human, barbarian... though she is also great with plants)
Born among the clans of Icewind Dale Nynthia never really fit in. Something was pulling her away from everything she knew, she needed to see more of the world to know if her place was really with the clans. The path south was eye-opening in many ways. It was hard to get accustomed to more 'civilised' cities and she definitely prefered to stay by herself surrounded by nature, but that wasn't the point of this whole ordeal, was it? And yet, no city seamed to offer her what she was seaking. But neither did other places. There was a certain calling she didn't understand and kept her going further and further.

One day she finally found herself all the way down in Tradesmeet in a small tavern talking to a druid. The druid recognized the calling she discribed, but pointed out to her that she won't find the answers anywhere but in herself and she should listen and not chase it. Not too sure what to make with the wisdom she never the less decided it was time to return back home. Passing through Athkatla she decided to join a carawan as additional hired sword to earn some money - travelling in groups should be saver anyway.

After several days on the road it was time to ear her pay as a group of goblins ambushed them. Things were looking a bit dicey until a small group of travelers appeared and joined the fight. Those three - and their 'packaged' follower - offered to join the caravan for the rest of the journey as well, but were rejected due to their Drowish companion. Nynthia on the other hand found the group more intriguing than the carawan so she decided to join those and help with their package. Together they travelled back to Baldur's Gate to finish the Drow's quest just to see a strange flying ship appear...
