Going into turn-based mode in Waukeen's rest and saving creates a save file that crashes when opened.

Turn-based mode saves will load properly in the other places I checked.

On the plus side, talking to the councilor no longer bounces you out of turn-based mode. That's a big help.

On the minus side, the best way (even if it is tedious) to save both the councilor and the trapped man is to use turn-based mode. But you have to do it in one run because of the noted bug. Turn-based mode is tedious enough already; losing quite a bit of play time to bad save files is just twisting the knife.

Clarification after a few tests:
1) There has to be at least one person in the burning inn where the councilor is. I haven't tried the side buildings to see if those trigger the problem too.
2) It is definitely turn-based mode that triggers it: if you turn off turn-based mode, the save file will work.

Another related bug:

If you rescue the trapped man in turn-based mode and get him far enough that he runs to his wife on his own, that turn cannot be completed. You can 'end turn' all characters, but the next turn refuses to start. You also cannot get out of turn-based mode. The 'solution' is to avoid it: get him just out of the burning room and then end turn-based mode.
