Relying on modders isn't an ideal solution, but, of course, this isn't an ideal world.
It's not an ideal solution but it's a good solution, I would personally ask the devs for something I can't do myself, if I just need to spend 15 minutes to fetch some files from the web that will solve my problem I don't see why I would bother asking the devs to do it. It literally takes more time to make a thread and discuss this topic than to actually solve the problem.
