So far no negatives about the brand outside of party disapproval, I assume there will be consequences good and or bad down the road though.
If you get the brand you can use the 3 magic items of the absolute. Like the gloves of power from the grove gate fight. If you don't have the brand and wear them you cast bane on yourself every attack, when branded you cast bane on your target.
