Prior to the utterly unnecessary shift that occurred in 4e, Tieflings where not a 'monstrous' race.
3rd Edition. Monster Manual.
"Aside from a demeanor that many find disturbing, many tieflings are indistinguishable from humans..."
Please give us some options in terms of character creation, a few heads without horns, to represent this.

this is based upon 5th edition. there's also a mod that removes the horns over at nexus.

Tbh, even in 4e/5e not every tiefling has to have horns and sometimes they can be indistinguishable except for a small feature or completely and utterly inhuman in appearance. So I support more character creation options so we can make our personal tiefling.

I do think the tieflings are a bit too horny, I support the option to make them less so in character creation, giving the players more choices. The horns actually look like it was glued on for some of the options.

Maybe additionally give us more tiefling subrace options like winged and feral and such?

I'll look for the mod for sure. I'm not looking to fight over which version is best, I just absolutely hate what they did to the race in 4e.
I just want the option, even if the face is dull, to ditch the god awful huge horns glued on the forehead since that edition.

Indeed more choices would be appreciated I would love to create a really frightening thiefling (obviously with a very kind heart and innocent and pure and naive ) *.*

Yeah. Surely they could make a face or two without the base of the horns on there? They already have the option to go without horns, so why not?

Comparison BG2 and BG3: -> So, yes, in 3rd Edition many Tieflings would not be immediately recognizable.

Damn, always thought Haer'Dalis was an elf. Or at least i remembered it that way.
A bit off topic, in lore are/were thieflings' looks influenced by those of their parents (if they're not thieflings themselves)? If i remember correctly their godly-counterparts, aasimars, could look like any race depending on their parents.
Which kind of begs the question if those two 'races' are actual races right now? I've always been under the assumption they worked like sorcerers, latent genes or whatever and all that.

You are correct. Tieflings can be of any race. They were always generalised to be humans because humans are the most common race. There are other labels for other races that has interbred with fiends - fey'ri and quicklings for example -- but I am unsure how much these resemble tieflings (in that tieflings are completely mortal with some fiendish influence) or if they count as actual fiendish beings.
The 4th ed tieflings however are all descended from humans. Though that origin is far ago, and they are now a true breeding race -- they are no longer born from humans and will not have humans children themselves, only tieflings.

Tanarukk looking thicc. Then i double-checked their height Thanks for the answers anyway. Shame they reworked them, i liked better the idea of tieflings being the biproduct of some kind of rare stigma, or curse, or whatever, and what that entailed in society, rather an actual race.

Yeah I dont play them as their own race. I think its does a massive disservice to the potential flexibility. When are they going to ruin Assimar? I doubt they do, but must every Assimar have wings or something stupid now? Just flawed. My Tieflings will remain as 2e/3e had them, as irrational as it is, I'll never accept the 4e (and 5e even with the back pedaling) version. Something off about the eyes, something strange in the 'aura', and you RP it from there... Oh and 4'6" Orc Fiends seems off, I'll check the book after work lol.

Oh and since I'm just continuing to whinge about this.
Please also let us use the Variants as per the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide.
Feral - +1 Int, +2 Dex. Devil's Tongue - Different spell list than Infernal Legacy. Hellfire - Different spell list than Infernal Legacy. Winged - Not sure this would have any application if they dont implement flying, so perhaps a skip on this one.

The "right" way to do it would have been to allow people to play *actual* demons or angels. Because that's what all this is obviously about. Tieflings, Sorceres, Aasimar are just people with a little bit of demonic or draconic blood. It might also be interesting to have tieflings or aasimar similar to sorcerers: That they at one point/certain level "awaken" more and more of their bloodline powers and can, in the end, become actual demons or angels. In that case, Tieflings would just look like normal people in the beginning but become more and more demon-like with additional levels.

No, thats not what I am after AT ALL. If I wanted to play a fiend, I would be fine with how Tieflings are presented to us since 4e, because its literally a human in a Devil costume. That is not what I am after in any way shape or form. I am interested in it as a character hook, not the in your face 'you can see me as nothing but a Tiefling' affront that it is now. Its rendered them into a parody. This is better. Or how Gensai are done. Or how Assimar continue to be done. Tieflings are the only plane touched that were WILDLY changed from what they used to be, that I'm aware of, in some effort to REDUCE diversity, and lock people into a single example of what a Tiefling is. Its terrible.

I'm all for this. Even Kalikke and Kanera(artwork, not in game model) from Pathfinder Kingmaker looked better. I prefer the smoother look.

If they want to give the players the ability to play a fiend, then go all the way. Let them play fiends, including their powerful abilities and maybe a level adjustment. If you want to have humans with demonic blood keep it as humans with little oddities.
