The player character is certainly the biggest offender, by a long margin, but I've not been too impressed with the others either, to be perfectly frank. In their cases, it's more often a case of various expressions not matching body language well, or being too sudden in their shifts from one expression to another, and back again. It couples up with what are frequently jerky or stiff body/arm/hand animations to create a "marionette" feeling that just makes most scenes laughable for me (shadow is particularly bad for this - have a chat with her at the first meeting off the ship and tell me it's not like talking to a marionette puppet).
The capture for specific cutscenes is often good - even if their cinematography and understanding of scene composition is sorely lacking (I'm especially aggravated by their over-love of the extreme face close-up, while the expressions on those faces is flat) - but that just makes all of the other animations that surround those moments feel even more crude.
Anyway, I don't want to draw attention away from the actual OP's topic and posts here, it's just something that's bugged me as I've done my various break downs of things...
