With the ladder stuff, it feels like the game is completely overlooking the simple climbing rules that exist in the tabletop: you climb at half speed (quarter speed if it's difficult terrain), and need Athletics checks to proceed if it's a slippery or otherwise difficult-to-climb surface. It seems like something that should be simple to implement and that would, if not for jumping, add a little more tactical depth to the higher ground/lower ground thing because you'd have to consider the extra movement costs against the benefits.
