I have been playing with 3 friends using the direct connect feature but we are having problems restarting the game.
The host will save our game before we disconnect and restart that game with a new game code. The host will see 4 players in the game but we see an error for 2 or more players that there are no controllable characters to join to. This is different than the general error that we have seen when the host hasn't started the game yet or we mistyped the game code. The only solution we have found is to pick an older game save to join.
We thought that this may be related to the group being broken. During game play, we have noticed that we need to re-invite players who have become ungrouped. We haven't found the cause for this but we are now careful that everyone has the "leave group" option before we save.
We thought that this may be related to an incomplete save. If a character is engaged in an action like talking or exploring then their attributes are not being saved properly. We have made sure that we are standing together in a tight group while doing nothing before we save. Also, we all see the "save successful" message.
Possible solutions that we haven't tested yet:
-the host needs to be the last to exit the game so each player's status is recorded properly. This doesn't make sense unless the latest game save hasn't completed before the host exits.
-each player needs to leave the group before the host saves. This would make the host the controller of all 4 players so external factors are eliminated.
-the multiplayer saves are corrupt in general so they only work for in-game saving.
-create 2 game saves so the latest isn't the only restore point.
Any other ideas would be appreciated
