Yeah agreed, there needs to be way less aggression and absolutely no name calling or insulting.

I'm sure people dismissively handwaving away most of the criticism as some form of mass hysteria, all while making up convenient strawmen like this about this fictional part of the community that "cries betrayal" incessantly (which I guess is coded language for "Dare to express any degree of disappointment without sugarcoating it") will contribute a lot more to make the game better and the mood around here a lot more pleasant.

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN

Your classification of jump, although you probably believe is hilarious is really kind of childish.

Of course it is childish. It is my feedback about the way D&D5 rules are implemented so far. I find it gives a very childish tone to the game.
For healing : scroll or throw one of your 100 healing potions on a friend.

That particular post and the OP even replying to it with a positive attitude should definitely be called out too...

...And I am glad someone got to it, because I really didn't feel like doing it myself. Tone policing only works if you're not going to immediately become hypocritical about it.

My apologies for offending anyone. My point was really the opposite of perhaps the way it came out.

I have no problem with people having an opinion about the game and whether they think it is like BG1 or 2 or not. I have no problem with people suggesting to make it feel more like the previous games, change the UI, etc. I only meant that the aggressive, attack-nature and tone of some of the posts is not constructive. It just makes people not want to suggest anything.

As far as what I said about BG1 and 2, I just meant that I understand why Larian would not want to use the same style of gameplay and UI and so forth. But you are also right in that I am only assuming the game would not do well if they created it in the same style. Who knows? It could do very well if they had similar UI functionality and so forth.

So please understand I wasn't trying to say that everyone who disagrees just needs to suck it up and shut up, or anything like that. I'm just trying to get people to look at it from Larian's point of view. They obviously care a great deal and are trying to make the game the best way they can to make it as profitable as they can and to try to make as many people happy as they can. It's gotta be tough trying to do this and stay on budget.

But certainly, suggest whatever you want. That's actually my overall point. I am trying to encourage people to suggest away. If you agree with the suggestion, say so and maybe if enough people agree they'll implement the change.

The issue I have is that a person suggests something and immediately is attacked, or at least that was my Steam experience. THAT is counter-productive, and does nobody any good and may cause people with good ideas to stay silent.

Do you post on public forums often?

You don't have to apologize. As I said, hard to distinguish tone in posts. If you read it like someone is yelling at you, then yeah I can see a problem. Most times people are just being snarky and sassy with a grin on their face. Other times, like I am now, posters are just chilling and shooting the breeze responding to posts that interests them.

Relatively new to it, honestly. BG3 is what got me into it to make suggestions, but the people on Steam were at each other's throat's.

Definitely a better atmosphere here. SO much better.

Just wanted to make sure. Thanks.

To the OP, personally, I think that the tone here, and the civility with which most people involved in the heavy discussions conduct themselves is a step above most other community contact points. Most of the people who engage in the serous or heavy discussions here are, for the most part, entirely civil to one another, more or less respectful of disagreements, and generally all understand that we're all here because we want the game to be the best game it can be - while also understanding that a large part of our job as play-testers is precisely to give feedback - often strongly negative feedback - on the things that we find most desperately in need of review.

None of the other community contact points (that are actually doing this work, as opposed to fan-art sharing boards etc.) are anywhere near as calm and polite to one another as this place is, and I know that I for one try very hard to maintain that wherever I post.

I figured. You’ll learn quickly to either get a thick skin or just know that we are a bunch of strangers that don’t have any substantial impact on each other’s lives. The one major commonality is of course, interest in this game.

And like Niara said, pretty much everyone wants this game to be great but there’s a lot of different personalities and viewpoints. Hey, think of it as a family gathering during the holidays. If you hate those types of gatherings, grab a few brews and everything will be better laugh

I just assume everyone is being civil until something insulting is said. Everyone has different views for this game, including Larian. And this is supposed to be an open ongoing discussion of those viewpoints so that this game can become the best that it can. With that there will be disagreements and even discontent with certain things. And issues of how much communication is not enough or too much. That is process of an EA game.

Quite. A reminder to all that if you see this sort of thing, please report it rather than joining in: we'll deal with it if necessary. The moderators aren't quite omnipotent (yet) so we don't necessarily know something's kicking off unless someone tells us...

Generally, I don't see many people coming down on ANY critiques, except for the ones that just expect this game to be made to suit a particular subsets ideas of how it should be. Than when you put your point across about how you don't feel the same, then you are accused of basically "white knighting", or hit with some snarky answer. It gets frustrating. Pretty sure nobody thinks an alpha version of a game is perfect, but there is a difference between providing constructive critique, and negative. It seems some only want to focus on negative, then act like the victim when they are called out on those actions. Besides a few people, I have found the majority of posters on this forum to be pretty straightforward and thoughtful. But damn, some like to just keep poking that dog until it snaps, and it doesn't seem like they are getting called out on it.

They must not (yes, MUST not) call it DnD then.

True, but agin it's totally their fault if they lured people into buying the EA game by using links to DnD. Was it just BGIII it would be fine, but when you await to feel some underbaked due to EA NWN and get a poorly camouflaged DOS instead it's extremely disappointing.

Nobody cares about whether or not they follow 5e to the minutia or not. People care about the changes they've made from 5e because they're making the game worse and less fun.

So true.
