I think no-one has been vocal about Tabaxi, Tortles, etc., so far is because they appear in official books that aren't the PHb, and we don't yet have even all of the PHb races.

I absolutely want to see all of our regular race options supported in game - bu there are a lot, and Larian have already said and demonstrated that the potential work-load is very much more than they anticipated.

Dragonborn (Missing but presumed coming)
Dwarf (Present)
Elf (Present)
Gnome (Missing but presumed coming)
Half-Elf (Present)
Halfling (Present)
Half-Orc (Missing, no evidence yet)
Human (Present)
Tiefling (Present)

After that, the more common player races (and more commonly socially accepted) from other books include:

Tabaxi (VGtM)
Goliath (EE)
Aasimar (VGtM)
Genasi (EE)
Firbolg (VGtM)
Aarakocra (EE)
Tortle (TP)
Lizardfolk (VGtM)
Kobold (VGtM)
Trioton (VGtM)
Satyr (MOoT)

Cases which are rarer requests and choices or who are often much harder to slide into social situations, but still officially playable races include:

Yuan-ti Pureblood (VGtM)
Minotaur (GGtR)
Loxodon (GGtR)
Leonin (MOoT)
Gith (MToF) (Present!)
Kenku (VGtM)
Orc (VGtM)
Hobgoblin (VGtM)
Goblin (VGtM)
Bugbear (VGtM)
Centaur (GGtR)
Locatha (LR)
Grung (OGA)

Others which are not really setting-agnostic (but often are transposed at player request), and from other realm-spaces still within the official realms-lore:

Warforged (E:RftLW)
Changeling (E:RftLW)
Kalashtar (E:RftLW)
Shifter (E:RftLW)
Simic Hybrid (GGtR)
Vedalken (GGtR)

That's a lot of playable races. It's hard to say how many will be within Larian's scope, but at this stage, cross your fingers for the PHb at least.
