I'm not making any judgements, I like and respect Larian Studios immensely. I'm just putting it out there so that it doesn't get overlooked considering the scope of the game. Skin color is only a minor aspect of ethnic variation. There are many combinations of eye, nose, mouth, cheek and jaw shapes/sizes that could be represented. A lot of the faces look kinda samey and indistinct. The hair and skin options are great, though I wouldn't say no to more.

I enjoy designing/playing a variety of characters in these types of games, making up head-cannon origin stories based on different backgrounds and such. I'm not really a self-insert kinda guy so I appreciate it when games give you as many options to choose from. I feel like that is a huge part of what makes DnD great and Larian could definitely do more to show that for this game.

In today's environment, I don't think any game developer would NOT make sure there was a diverse selection screen for races etc. I am sure it just hasn't all been modeled out yet because of all the other stuff. I doubt anyone will over look it though, it is a pretty big thing to modern games. But I have also noticed that even in EA, Larian has made diversity present even in non human races. Such as tieflings with the facial features of multiple races of people of color. Same with elves, and yes even seen it in the humans as well. So not sure where "Larian could definitely do more to show it in the game" as you put it. I have seen multiple NPCs that represented different races, as for the character creator, most EA have a limited selection.
