I tried RP'ing as the drow child of a half-elf <CHARNAME> and Viconia, and BG3 wouldn't be vague enough to let me.
Why does this matter? Because the story in the BG3 would then be a continuation of MY original Bhaalspawn saga playthroughs. I don't want Bhaalpowers, I just want to RP without the game forcing that I am not. Not asking for side-content, just enough mysterious vagueness when the MC is forced to reveal his/her backstory that it doesn't disrupt my head-canon.

In BG2: ToB there are two children possible in the story, a boy named Quayle with Aerie, or an unnamed boy in the epilogue with Viconia. After 1 to 4 generations, the descendants of the Bhaalspawn can be many if not most of the races included so far.

So the suggestion: allow more vague answers when revealing the main character's history and background, if you won't just let me come out and BE the child of the Bhaalspawn.

I find the answers are all already incredibly vague. Which ones are tripping your roleplay up exactly?

Honestly, I don't even know how Bhaalspawn will factor into this game. It is a sequel with a new story, but likely the Bhaalspawn has to have some impact or influence on the events that led up to this game. Also all the answers right now are very vague so there is nothing really breaking? I mean, I decided to name my character off of one I play in a 4e campaign and rationalize it as him being bored and being in faerun and then getting picked up by the ship and getting nerfed to hell cause parasite + faerun.

Spoilers for BG2:

Viconia's son grew up with a loving mother until she was murdered by the agents of Lloth. Then his father, the Bhaalspawn, pulled him into his private campaign of vengeance in the Underdark against the Drow and Lloth. That is fairly specific. As vague as the answers your character in BG3 can give, they aren't actually vague enough. The answers you give are assumed to become fact or truth.
If there was a (Lie) option that could also work.

Can you give me an example of what answers are too specific? At best you can confirm or deny that you lived in Baldur's Gate as far as I've seen.

The love talk with Shadowheart as a Drow struck me as dismissive of that possibility.
